I still remember the first needle book I ever made.
I was in Year 6. I made it in sewing class. And oddly, I still have it. “Oddly” because I can honestly say that it has to be the ugliest needle book I’ve ever seen. The things they got us to sew! Sewing was not my favourite class. But that’s another story for another time 🙂
This sweet little, easy to sew needle book is colourful, bright and really really simple to sew.
You’ll need a running stitch to sew that happy flower and another line of running stitches down the inside fold to hold it all together. That’s all!
And to add a smidgen of pazzaz, I’m showing you how to do a whipped running stitch for the butterfly’s body. Sounds exotic but it just involves weaving your thread in and out of your running stitches. Watch my tutorial. You’ll see how easy and lovely it is. Your kids will soon be in love with these whipped running stitches!
Mums and teachers: if your kids are starting to sew you might like to set them up with their own sewing kits. This needle book is a good start. It holds pins and needles (of course) but you can add some Essential Sewing Supplies to Teach Your Child to Hand Sew.
And a final note: if you like this fun little needle book, I’ll be adding a tutorial for a matching pin cushion some time soon (hopefully).
