Join the 2027 Global Kids Sewing Party

March 1–31, 2027

Celebrating creativity, community and kids

Join children, teachers and families around the world to sew a softie and gift it to someone in your community. It’s free to join, easy to take part in, and suitable for schools, libraries, sewing groups, homeschoolers and families. Beginners are welcome.

In 2026, about 7,500 children across 24 countries took part.

When you register, you’ll receive the free Global Kids Sewing Party Participant Guide to help you get started.

Register for the 2027 Global Kids Sewing Party

The Global Kids Sewing Party began in 2019 with the Children’s Museum of the Arts in New York and its Civickids program. Since then, it has grown into an international event, bringing together children from around the world through sewing, creativity and the simple pleasure of making something by hand.

More than just sewing

Kids learn how to sew and create their own softie, but the Global Kids Sewing Party is also about community. By making something to give to someone else, children discover that they can contribute to their community in a simple and meaningful way.

How it works

  1. Register your family, class or group.
  2. Sew a softie any time during March.
  3. Gift your softie to someone in your community.

You don’t need to know how to sew.I’ll show you how!

Looking for a school project idea? A younger class can draw their own imaginary characters, then older students can turn the drawings into softies to gift back to them.

Everything you need to get started:

  1. An easy free project: Make a Square Zenki.
  2. Supplies: Find out what you need to hand sew with kids.
  3. Running stitch: Watch the simple video demonstration.
  4. Get to Know My Softie: Download the printable for your softie’s new recipient.

For more project ideas and workshop guidance, you might also enjoy The Zenki Way: A Guide to Designing & Enjoying Your Own Creative Softies. The book is optional—you don’t need it to join the party.

Who can you gift your softie to?

Children can gift their softie to someone in their own community—a friend, teacher, younger student or anyone else they would like to make something for.

Groups that would like to donate their softies to a charity are welcome to do that too. In previous years, softies have been donated to places including cat shelters and Ronald McDonald House.

Arts for Little Hearts, started by two teenage brothers, can arrange to have your softies delivered to a hospital for you.
