About Me

Hi, I’m Trixi Symonds.

I’ve been teaching children to sew for more than 30 years and am the founder of Sew a Softie, a global initiative that inspires adults around the world to teach children to sew.

Since launching Sew a Softie in 2016, I’ve helped educators, parents, grandparents and librarians discover how simple, creative and rewarding sewing with children can be. Through my workshops, books, ebooks, online tutorials and global sewing events, I’ve inspired thousands of children around the world to pick up a needle and thread for the very first time.

I am the author of three books on sewing with children—Sew Together Grow Together: Sewing Projects for Parents and ChildrenSewing Simple Softies With 17 Amazing Designers, and The Zenki Way: A Guide to Designing & Enjoying Your Own Creative Softies—as well as several ebooks in the Sew a Softie Workbook series designed to help adults confidently teach children to sew.

I’m looking forward to sharing the tools, techniques and teaching strategies I’ve developed over decades of sewing with children, so that you can confidently introduce sewing to the children in your life.
