Meet the Sew a Softie Kid Ambassadors
Sew a Softie 2020 is over for another year and I’d like to introduce you to the amazing Sew a Softie kid ambassadors. Kids teaching kids to sew is the best!
They undertook to teach a friend or a dad or a sibling to sew or simply learnt to sew themselves.
I love their creativity and enthusiasm. They often researched the project they wanted to teach and many practiced their stitches before Sew a Softie began.
Here they are:
Meet T, Jude, Justin, Tanya, Sadie, Faye and Emory, Camryn, Ruquaiyyah, Payton, Ivy and Elsie, Linta and Mabel…
…Tyler, Cassidy, Olivia, Jojo, Tom, Carmem, Anna, Jayce, Sylvia, Dani, Eve and Spencer.
Some of their Stories
Payton from Arizona hosted a Sew a Softie party for his friends.
Their colours and designs looked amazing (as you can see for yourselves in the photo below). Payton wrote saying, “I thought it was really nice that I was invited to do it this year. It was great to be learning together instead of alone. It was a fun learning experience for all of us. I think we all made great softies. I had a lot of fun and I’ll do it again next year!”
As you can see Paytons mum Amy had plenty of fabric available for the kids.
Jayce from Georgia taught his dad to sew a fat bat…and Dad looks like a very good student if the photo below is anything to judge by.
Jayce said,” I was happy to help daddy create Fat Bat. I want to teach him more about sewing. I want to help people learn how to sew. So I got an idea to create Roz and Light, (Jayce’s names for his other softies…he’s a very prolific softie maker…and I like that Jayce named them…in my experience, softie’s are usually very proud of their names). I wanted to be a kid ambassador because I want to help people to sew. If you’re scared, but still interested in sewing, don’t wait until you’re older, you should try until you get the hang of it. If you need help, ask a grown up.”
Very sweet.
Tyler from Los Angeles sewed this sweet little bear and wanted to pass on some sewing tips to other children. He and his brother Justin joined in and taught lots of their friends to sew softies.
Carmen from Cincinnati had a really unique idea.
She packed special softie kits, dropped them at the school where her mum works and then conducted a virtual sewing workshop showing 100 under-priviledged kids how to make softies.
Linta from Pakistan decided to teach her friend to sew:
“Me and my friend Jannat are glad to be a part of the Sew a Softie family. It was a wonderful experience for me to teach my friend how to sew a softie we both had great time together and learning together was a great fun for both of us. My most favourite part was to cut smiles and my friend’s s favourite part was stitching as it was a new experience for her. I am looking forward to participate next year as well. Thank you Sew a Softie for making me your Sew a Softie ambassador 😊”
Their faces and their softie make me smile too.
Elsie and Ivy from New Zealand hosted a Sew a Llama Softie party with friends:
I loved sewing my llama with my friends. Two of my friends came over as well as my sister and her friend and I got to show them how to sew. If there was a rating out of 10 I would choose 10/10 for fun.
Love the rating.
And Julia from Canada
This is such a wonderful initiative and you are creating a legacy here Trixi!!
