If its all about spreading the love, then this sweet softie you can make for Valentines Day is no exception.
When I first thought up Sew a Softie Day I pictured it as an annual event but because of the amazing response, Sew a Softie has been colonising more and more days of our year.
Thanks to Hilarie, who suggested that Valentines would make a great Sew a Softie occasion…and to all the people who are joining in and designing simple to sew softie tutorials…we have softie making tutorials appearing every day from Jan 30th to Feb 10th…which means there should be something for everyone by the time Valentines Day clocks in on Feb 14th.
If you’re not quite sure how to sew a running stitch with kids or thread a needle have look at these short videos.
Here’s my contribution…a super simple hand-sewn felt softie…one of a little known group of softies called “Soft Spots”…and spreading the love is what they’re about.
Meet the fabulous Rhonda
What you need
12″ X 10″ dark pink felt
8″ X 6″ light pink felt
2″ X 1″ back felt
Scrap of red felt for mouth
Needle
Pins
Thread
Polyester fiberfill
Glue
What to do
Download and print out the template. From dark pink felt cut out Rhonda’s body, from light pink felt cut out her face, from black felt cut out her glasses, and from red felt cut out her mouth.
Pin and sew the face onto the dark pink body. Remember to leave a opening for stuffing as shown above.
Push small amounts of polyester fibrefill through the opening until Rhonda is nice and…well…soft and cuddly…she doesn’t like being made too fat…and sew the opening closed.
Glue on Rhonda’s sunnies and mouth and fringe her hair…and as every girl knows, accessories are everything…I’ve made a little clutch for my Rhonda in the photo at the top of this post…but she also loves accessories like flowers or bows…and of course, fabulous shoes.
Happy Valentines…and don’t forget to post your creations on our Sew a Softie facebook group.
Love your Rhonda. Cool glasses for sure!
I know! She’s very cool so she needs cool glasses too 🙂
