Have you ever wanted to make your own bookmark? I hope so. I’d like you to meet Long Tall Sally, a really cute bookmark who’d love to join in on your kids’ reading adventures. What makes Sally so easy to create with your kids is that she’s cut from only one piece of felt and all her sewing is just decorative. So if your kids don’t want to sew around her they can sew wherever they want on her body to represent a skirt or blouse or just to make her look pretty…big stitches, little stitches, wonky stitches…they’ll all look great with colourful thread…and if you want to meet and sew her boyfriend Johnnie then head over to Red Ted Art where he’s making an appearance.
What you need
30cm X 18cm dark pink felt
light pink and white felt
needle and thread
glue (optional)
What to do
Use the template to cut out the body from dark pink felt. Cut out a nose and eyes as shown below:
Sew around the edge of the body using a running stitch leaving a margin at the top for the hair. Sew the hands into place as shown below.
Glue on the nose. Sew on each eye with a French knot as the pupil. Use a single stitch for the mouth and a cross stitch for the belly button. Fringe the top of the head to make the hair.
If you prefer, you can glue on the hands and eyes.
And ta-dah..Long tall Sally at your service.
Not sure what needle to use when sewing with your kids…
