Deciding to have a Sew a Softie for the Festive Season Tutorial Hop was a very last minute decision. Still, it seems that it was a good one. Everyone has been really enthusiastic and excited to join in and come up with an easy Christmas or Chanukah or Festive season sewing pattern for you to sew with your kids. And even better lots more people have joined in and shown me their festive season softies over on instagram.
Are you an “I can’t sew” mum?
Sometimes, when I ask people to join a tutorial hop they will tell me, “I’d love to but I can’t sew” or they’ll say, “I haven’t sewn in years” or “I’m not a good sewer”. My response is usually, that’s perfect! You’re just the person I’m looking for!
Why?
Because I started Sew a Softie to show all those parents and teachers who think “I can’t sew” or “I’m no good at sewing” that you don’t have to be an accomplished sewer to sew with your kids. It might even be an advantage if you’re not such an expert sewer because what you really do need to do is to start simple. If you choose really simple but fun and creative projects, you can not only sew with your kids but you’re going to find that they can’t get enough of it.
So I’m telling these I-can’t-sew mums that they’re just the sort of person I’m looking for because they often design or choose really simple projects that are perfect first projects for other newbie sewing mums to try out.
After the tutorial hop is done and dusted, these I-can’t-sew mums often thank me for having asked them to join in and say how much fun they had and how much they enjoyed designing their project and sewing with their kids and what’s even better…they say that they’d love to be asked to join in another tutorial hop.
If you’re looking for a fun gift that just keeps giving then take a look at my latest book, designed for mums who think the can’t sew 🙂
